Edward’s bedtime routine is pj’s, bottle and climbing the stairs to his bedroom. In his bedroom he has a cuddle with both of us and we give him his dummy and a little noo noo (made from an old muslin) to take to bed. I’m not sure how it started but we’ve done this for months and it’s very cute to see. For a long time Edward has put the muslin under his chin and cuddled up with it in his cot and lately I’ve been thinking he’s ready for a pillow to lie on. I picked up a lovely…

I have some business cards and wanted to make a fabric business card holder to keep them in order in my handbag. This project took less than 30 minutes and you can make them for yourself or as presents as they can be used to hold business cards, credit cards or photographs of grandchildren! How to make a business card holder 1. Choose two pieces of fabric and cut 5″ x 10″. You’ll also need a piece of interfacing (to give it some stiffness) cut to the same size. 2. Place the pieces of fabric right sides together with the…

I signed up to the Summer 2011 Handmade Gift Exchange and exchanged a couple of emails with my partner who seems to have similar interests to me. I’ve been meaning to make something from Scandinavian Stitches for a while, the book is full of amazing projects, and I put my own spin on the birds mini art quilt. I got to use my favourite bondaweb for the bird applique (which I finally feel I’ve mastered) although missed out the quilting as I didn’t want to ruin the quilt top! I also got to try some freehand machine stitching on my…

It’s that time of the month when I need to sit down and see how my Day Zero progress is going. It’s been a really busy but productive month. 14. Complete a 365 day photo challenge Our baby blog has now been updated for 14 months. It was originally started by my husband to record Edward’s first days and I wondered how we would have time to keep up with it! When my husband was hospitalised I used it as a way of making sure he didn’t miss out on how Edward was growing and I’ve managed to post every…

I had a whopping 107 entries to my Sew, Mama, Sew giveaway. I loved reading everyone’s comments on what they would make with the Royal Wedding fabric and I am pleased to announce the winner is Sallie. Congrats, Sallie! Is it too early to be thinking about Christmas? One of my favourite sewing books is Fa La La Felt and I can’t resist working my way through all the projects. I’ve made a lot of the patterns from it but these little felt gingerbread people really took my fancy! They were quick to make although I need to perfect the…

I thought I would participate in the Sew, Mama, Sew May Giveaway Day 2011. Up for grabs I have one metre of Royal Wedding fabric which I bought from my favourite department store, John Lewis. The fabric was produced to commemorate the wedding of Prince William and Miss Catherine Middleton on Friday 29th 2011. I was going to make something commemorative for the Royal Wedding but never got round to it. Rather than leave it sitting in my fabric drawer I thought I would offer it to someone who might actually use it! It would make lovely summery bunting, a…

Life is busy but I am pleased that crafting and baking have been carrying on in the background as usual. At the moment I’m really enjoying cross stitch and find there’s nothing better than watching a pattern come to life over a couple of evenings. I’ve been meaning to make this little fella for a while and love the way it turned out.

The Royal Wedding is the first big national event since my son was born and I’ve been busy collecting flags and souvenirs so we can watch the Royal Wedding and create some memories of our own. I thought it would be fun to make Royal Wedding crafty cress heads – a simple craft with quick, visible results – for the special occasion. You will need: an egg box 2 eggs colouring pens and paper to decorate cress seeds cotton wool How to make Royal Wedding crafty cress: Carefully crack the tops of your eggs and remove the egg from the…

I’m excited as I’ve signed up for an International Craft Swap, hosted by Zoe to keep my crafting mojo going. The ‘rules’ are simple – there isn’t a price limit, or a time limit, to what you make. Make it with love and they will love it. Be as generous as you can, the point of this is to put a smile on a stranger’s face, but don’t put yourself out. Try to use materials you already have in your stash, and maybe even do a little de-stash to send to your recipient! Basically I have 6 months to create…
