Today we were walking to school and my children berated me for our lack of Halloween decorations! I was pretty loathe to give up my day decorating, especially as I thought the Halloween decorations I picked up a few weeks ago in poundworld were brilliant. Clearly I needed to up my game to impress the 5 and 7 year old. A few weeks ago I bought a laser cut MDF spider web online. I thought I would use it to make my own Halloween wreath. I gave it two coats of white paint which took ages – if I try this…

“I wrote to the zoo to send me a pet. So they sent me an ….” Thus begins our favourite book! It’s a children’s picture book classic and a very respectable 35 years old. It seems a very long time ago since I took a very young Big Brother and Little Sis off to Macmillan Children’s Book for a lovely Dear Zoo party and to meet Rod Campbell. We love any book by Rod Campbell and have a much-loved copy of Dear Zoo which has been signed by him. As well as our classic copy of Dear Zoo we also…

Today my daughter spent some of her pocket money on a new Sylvanian Families toy to add to her collection. She loves the cute little babies and and bought the Sylvanian Families Double Pushchair. She’s definitely going through a huge SF phase at the moment. I couldn’t be happier because it’s an adorable range for her to enjoy. Over two years ago I wrote a round up on my top 10 Sylvanian Families crafts. In the past two years we’ve made some really good crafts so I thought it was time to update this post, or add a new one. So today I’m…

Are you keeping your kids occupied over half term? The weather hasn’t been too bad considering the time of year and we’ve been able to get out and about. It’s lovely to come home and snuggle up with a film and we whipped up some easy Halloween bark to enjoy whilst watching the new PJ Masks DVD. It’s so easy to make and you can adapt it to any season (we’ve already made delicious chocolate Easter bark!). Easy Halloween bark recipe 1 x bar of white chocolate 2 x bars of milk chocolate Halloween sprinkles Halloween sweets How to make Halloween…

I can’t believe we only have two weeks left of the A-Z Play at Home blog hop organised by Teach Me Mommy. We’ve really enjoyed taking part, even if we’re finding the final few letters quite hard! The idea behind the blog hop is to be inspired each week by a different letter to set up a different play or learning activity using items in the home. The colour yellow scavenger hunt I was a little stumped by the letter Y but thought a scavenger hunt would be fun. The weather has totally turned which means we’ve been spending a…

My little magpie has been picking up ‘treasures’ every day on the school run. She loves leaves and conkers and her latest findings have been acorns. She swaps them at school with her friends but luckily a few made it home for our nature table. I challenged her to make an acorn sun catcher to add to our collection. It was simple but looks great hung up in the window so I thought I would share it. Acorn sun catcher craft for kids We used a sheet of A4 white card Brown cellophane Contact paper Scissors Brown paper bag She…

Can I admit that we’re coming to the end of the A-Z Play at Home blog series organised by Teach Me Mommy and I’m finding the last few letters quite hard?! This weeks’ letter is the letter X and I’ve been finding it difficult to think of any thing beginning with the letter x around the home. So I’ve cheated a little bit! With Halloween coming up at the end of the month my children have been going crazy for all things Halloween. I tapped into their enthusiasm with our fun craft for Halloween – a ghostly x-ray hand print…

We put up some of our Halloween decorations yesterday but this year I just can’t help making Halloween themed food. Over the years we’ve made a lot of Halloween crafts but now the children are older it’s fun to spend more time in the kitchen. My 5 year old was off sick one day so we spent some time creating Oreo spider cookies for Halloween. They are really simple and you can find lots of different ways to make them if you look on Pinterest. This is our version. Ingredients for Oreo spider cookies Oreo biscuits Red sweet laces White…
