Just how do you introduce the idea of a sibling to your only child? I’ve been thinking about this for a while and got some great book recommendations from my local independent bookshop. We’ve been reading the beautifully illustrated

Last night I packed my hospital bag. I’ve been getting really strange tummy pains and just want to be ready in case anything happens. I know I’ll be having a c-section but what do I need to take into hospital? a new nightdress and dressing gown clothes to go home in maternity towels and pants toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant camera and charged battery phone and charger maternity notes notebook and pen so I can write down everything that happened (I did this last time and it was great to look back on after my morphine haze ended) towel antibacterial wipes plastic…

I can tell this pregnancy is going well because I just don’t have time to worry about it. I can’t even remember how many weeks pregnant I am which is worrying. Thank goodness I signed up to lots of marketing email so I get weekly reminders! When I bump into mum friends at our weekly events I either get “I didn’t realise you were pregnant” or “You look ready to pop” – not so great when I have a good couple of weeks to go! I actually have my second midwife appointment this week – yes, my second midwife appointment…

I just love surveys! We recently took part in Pampers play personality survey, by Pampers Village Parenting Panel expert, Dr Maggie Redshaw, and found Edward is a fan of Active Play! Your Child currently enjoys Active Play Your baby is probably on the move a great deal of the time. He enjoys physical activity and at times you may have trouble keeping up. Early on he will be keen to stand while you support him and will enjoy bouncing games on your lap. For him each new activity is seen as a challenge and crawling, walking, running, climbing or…

Having a second baby is scary stuff. Having one child is hard enough but I know there are gaps in the day which I can reclaim for myself. Two children, though… it’s difficult to get my head round. I’ve been re-reading the Second Baby Survival Guide but with 15 weeks to go I thought I would write a list of the things I want to do before the arrival of Second Baby. Probably shouldn’t be wasting time on this but I must have a clear out or else there won’t be any room for Second Baby Ebay/Amazon Marketplace as much…

*****Competition has now closed and the winner has been notified***** Shanta Everington is the author of ‘The Terrible Twos: A Parent’s Guide’ and she has just published her second book, ‘Baby’s First Year: A Parent’s Guide’, which has just been published (available from Amazon, Need2Know Books and all good bookstores). Shanta kindly agreed to answer some questions. What inspired you to write this book? When my son was born five years ago, like most new parents, I didn’t know what the hell I was supposed to be doing. I read a lot of parenting books but none of them really spoke…

Week 19 already so almost half way through this pregnancy! Where is the time going? I am totally missing the time spent lying on the sofa that I had with my first pregnancy. I’m on my feet all day with Edward, making sure we have loads of fun together and cherishing the time we spend as a two as I know our relationship will change when the new baby comes along. It doesn’t help that he seems to be quite clingy and whingey at the moment with no obvious cause and we’re having a few broken nights of sleep. Last…

We had some friends over last week for a playdate. It was fun seeing three little people in the sandpit and great for Edward to have some friends to play with. They are so much younger than Edward that it reminded me just how quickly he’s growing up. It’s hard to believe he 15 months already, it doesn’t seem that long since we brought him home from the hospital. After a three day stay in hospital I was itching to get out and about with him but as we kept having to wait around for the community midwife visits it…

I found this post as a draft that has been hanging around since November 2010! Time unfortunately hasn’t helped so I thought I would post it in case anyone can help. I have to rant about disposable nappies. Ages ago we were asked to test Huggies natural fit nappies. During the day the nappies were fine but at night they consistently leaked meaning I had to change all of Eward’s clothes, sleeping bag and bed sheets. It’s not only Huggies that have let us down. We’ve also tried Pampers Active Fit and Pampers Baby Dry without success. Last week three…
