I’m sure no child can resist collecting pocketfuls of leaves, acorns, conkers and pine cones at this time of year. My 3 year old can’t help herself and our nature table is overflowing with treasures. She really wanted to craft with some of them so we made a pretty Autumnal leaf luminary. DIY Autumn leaves luminary You will need – Mod Podge, selection of leaves and an empty glass jar How to make a DIY Autumn leaves luminary Choose a selection of leaves, smaller ones work best. October is the month when we gain an hour thanks to the clocks going back an hour on the 25th October. I’m looking forward to the lighter mornings and an extra hour in bed. Someone please tell my children though, as they always struggle a little with the extra hour. I love this fun infographic with 20 suggestions of things to do with that extra hour. I like the sound of making an extra special family breakfast. The children keep asking for pancakes so perhaps it will be pancakes for them and a healthy fry up for the grown ups.…

Autumn is a strange season in many ways. It is full of vibrancy, colour and life yet has a sometimes melancholic hint of the coldness to come. Autumn can be cold one day and t-shirt and BBQ weather the next. It’s a real mixed bag but that is what makes it so wonderful. It’s a season of impending festivity. Halloween and Bonfire Night kick off the end of year fun and just as Autumn starts to ebb we brighten up our lives with cheery songs, twinkling lights and hearty meals. Autumn is fantastic inspiration for interior design and a way…

Now my son is back at school Little Sis has been taking an interest in her own toys again. During the holidays she was happy to be directed by her older brother but I’m pleased to see her going back to her own toys now. This week she has been playing Sylvanian Families a lot so I though it would be fun to go on an autumn scavenger hunt and have some nature play. There are plenty of outdoor spaces near us so every day we have looked for conkers, acorns and different leaves. The leaves are changing colour really…

Owls are always popular on stationery and fabric so we were delighted to be sent a box of 4 plain owl porcelain plates from Baker Ross to craft with. We previously received a set of their porcelain pens so we were able to decorate them straight away. The porcelain pens are easy to use, just give them a shake, take off the lid and press down gently to release the ink. The porcelain owl plates have pre-defined shapes on them which makes them easy to decorate, outlining owls and feathers. We found the ink ran slightly creating some interesting colour…

Don’t shout at me or leave rude comments but we’ve started our Halloween crafting. I know it’s early but we thought we’d make a head start. The weather can’t seem to make its mind up what season it is which doesn’t help. One day we’re wearing winter woolies and the next we’re back in our sandals and shorts. Autumn is my favourite season and we’ve been planning Apple Days and our Autumn fairy garden. Therefore it seemed pretty natural to make some Autumnal sun catcher decorations. My 5 year old was asking when we would be able to buy our…

I’ve had lots of fun decorating my mantel this month. The Autumnal colours have crept in and our nature table has been bursting with leaves, pinecones and seeds which the children have adored picking up. My vintage bus blind is still in its usual place on the mantel. We have done a little decorating this month but still haven’t decided on a permanent home for this. I love it though so I’m glad it’s still somewhere central. As well as the vintage bus blind I have my brass candlesticks, two of my favourite ceramic tea light houses, our clock and…

I set up an Autumnal invitation to play for my 4 year old when he got home from school yesterday. He’s play dough crazy so I thought I would combine some Autumnal coloured play dough with some of the acorns we collected at the woods over the weekend. Equipment needed for easy play dough acorns: Autumnal coloured play dough – red, orange, yellow, green and brown Acorns and acorn caps (I placed them in a bag in the freezer over night to make sure there were no nasties in them) How to make easy play dough acorns: I set out…

The changing seasons seem to be really noticeable where we live. On our recent walks we’ve been collecting leaves, conkers, berries and the winged seeds from Sycamore trees. I’ve enjoyed introducing my children to the fun of throwing them up in the air and trying to catch them. We found some super large one’s so we gathered a few to take home. I thought they would make great wings so we made some little Sycamore seed fairies from wooden clothes pegs. Materials you need to make Sycamore seed fairies: wooden clothes pegs black permanent pen scraps of fabric Sycamore seeds…
