We were recently sent a Marble Run kit, the latest kit from Build Your Own who make sustainable toys with less plastic. The Build Your Own range is suitable for children (and adults!) aged 8 and up. They use visual perception and thinking skills and make great STEM toys (ones which utilises science, technology, engineering and mathematics).

Build Your Own Marble Run
BYO marble run kit comes in a smart cardboard box with all the pieces pre-printed for you and a packet of 10 marbles. It’s made using sustainable cardboards and minimal plastics, so is environmentally responsible. There is a QR code on the back of the box for instructions and a how-to-guide although these were also included in the box.
The marble run is the largest kit in the range so far with 153 pieces to slot together. It was quite easy to put together but it took a while and we built it over several days. It was a real team effort too and my husband enjoyed building it as much as the kids. Thankfully these BYO kits are mess free, the parts just slot together.
I think this is our favourite kit so far. You wind the handle and collect a marble which goes up the marble elevator, then you can watch it pass through one of the 3 neon runs, through the fun vortex cone to the finish line.
The kit was both fun to build and play with. It’s quite a large kit, around 50cm high, so takes up a lot of table space. Hopefully when the kids have enjoyed it for a few more days they will take it to one of their bedrooms so I can have my dining table back! This would make a great gift if you’re looking for something which is both sustainable and will stretch your brain and problem solving skills as you build. Both my children have loved seeing how it works and have learned a little about physics and kinetic energy too.
As well as the Build Your Own Marble Run (£22.99) there is also a Telescope kit, Plane Launcher and Microscope kit. They can be purchased directly from Build Your Own, Amazon or all good toy shops.
