We are now counting down the days until the kids finish school for the Christmas holidays. The Autumn term is always a long one and we have been kept so busy with clubs, hobbies and exams. Now we are winding down and can’t wait until we can enjoy some family time together. Last weekend we were invited to go and watch Bugsy Malone The Musical at the beautiful Alexandra Palace theatre and I can’t wait to tell you more about it.
Bugsy Malone The Musical at Alexandra Palace
Bugsy Malone is a real classic gangster musical film from 1976. The original film starred an all-child cast including Jodie Foster and was based on real life events in Prohibition era New York. Toy guns and whipped cream replaced machine guns and bullets and the songs were really catchy.
Bugsy Malone The Musical has come to London for Christmas, playing at the wonderful Ally Pally in North London (Alexandra Palace Theatre) from 3 December to 15 January 2023. We went to see the performance on Sunday and really enjoyed it.
Welcome to New York 1929! A city full of mobsters, showgirls and dreamers. The custard pies are flying and the new-fangled “splurge” gun is causing mayhem!
Packed with instantly recognisable songs from Oscar-winner Paul Williams including My Name is Tallulah, You Give A Little Love and Fat Sam’s Grand Slam, this fun-filled and riotous musical comedy offers the perfect festive treat for all the family.
It was great to re-visit Ally Pally again as we used to live round the corner. The theatre is a beautiful venue and we loved the staging. I had forgotten a lot of the plot of the second half so really enjoyed watching it again with my kids. The performance lasted for 120 minutes, including one interval, which allowed us to relax at the bar.
If you’re looking for something special to do over the festive season then we would recommend a trip to watch Bugsy Malone The Musical at Alexandra Palace. It kept the kids entertained and we all left the theatre humming to our favourite tunes!
Running Time: 120 minutes including one interval
Age guide: 6+
