Banksy with Bunting in Wood Green High Road

Posted on May 18, 2012August 29, 2019 by jenny

Yesterday I received an email from my mum, asking if I’d seen the latest Banksy which had apparently appeared on the wall of our local Poundland overnight. I instantly googled to find out more, inwardly cursing the fact she knew what was happening in my own neighbourhood before me!

We went down to take a look as it’s not every day modern art appears on the doorstep! The graffiti has been stencilled on the side wall of the shop just off Wood Green High Road. It features a small child at a sewing machine making bunting, some plastic union jack bunting has been attached. By the time we saw it, it had already been covered over with a sheet of perspex which trapped the bunting.

I’m usually embarrassed to admit I live in N22. It doesn’t have the best reputation. A couple of weeks ago there was a shooting outside the tube station, a stabbing at the local barber shop and we saw someone get mugged for their iPhone whilst we were on the bus. All within one week. It gets depressing opening the local paper and we can’t wait to move.

What ever the message of the work, and oh theĀ  delicious irony of painting it on a Poundland which imports all manner of foreign tat, thank you Banksy for giving the people of Wood Green something more interesting to talk about.

I didn’t know you also lived in Wood Green! What a small world. I’m also in N22!
I read about Banksy’s new artwork on the paper on my way home and couldn’t wait to take a photo on Tuesday!
Agree “thank you Banksy for giving the people of Wood Green something more interesting to talk about” !

How exciting for something like that to just appear.

We just moved out of the area over Easter. Gutted now that we didn’t stay a few weeks longer to see the Banksy!
