A baking challenge with Truvia

I was asked if I would like to try Truvia sweetener, which is a calorie-free sweetener from the stevia leaf. It has the consistency of sugar and is an innovation in food, working great in all sorts of recipes from your good old hearty meals to refreshing drinks. My husband has been using it as a sugar substitute in his hot drinks and I tried it in baking, whipping up a delicious batch of scones.

The scones tasted lovely although I made sure to slightly lower the temperature of the oven and baked the scones for an extra 5 minutes as Truvia has different properties to normal sugar.

Great as an alternative to artificial sweeteners and sugar, it can also be used in baking for your children, there’s no worry associated with traditional sweeteners or too much sugar and it is kind to teeth too!

Truvia can be used in lots of recipes and you can find recipe inspiration on their website. For best results when baking, leave about 1/4 cup sugar in your favourite recipe and replace the remainder with appropriate amount of Truvia natural sweetener from the conversion chart on www.truvia.com. You can use brown sugar for more chewy and moist baked goods so I will be trying it out with some sticky gingerbread soon!

I have seen the ads on TV but not tried it yet, can you taste the difference? I’m wondering if I can switch without anyone noticing?

I couldn’t taste the difference, neither could my husband. Worth a try!
