Five Happy Things {Week 450}

Posted on May 28, 2023May 28, 2023 by jenny

Starting the week by writing the Happy List is something I’ve been doing for a while. This is my chance to sit down and reflect on the things that made me happy in the previous week, as well as to record some of our family adventures. It’s a post I always love to write.

Five Happy Things {Week 450}

The weather has been really good to us this week which has meant we’ve had some lovely dog walks in the evening. Our dog always appreciates a run through the fields and it tires him out properly.

We couldn’t resist a trip to the cinema to go and watch Fast and Furious X. I love the franchise and this was a good action film. I was totally surprised by the ending though as the storylines were all open, I’m not sure I’ve ever watched a film like that before. It will keep up hooked for the next instalment.

I’ve been reading The Dress Diary of Mrs Anne Sykes: Secrets from a Victorian Woman’s Wardrobe. It’s a really fascinating book which tells the story of a notebook containing small pieces of fabric. The author uses the pieces of fabric to chart the life of the owner, Anne Sykes, who lived in Singapore for a few years. It’s a really interesting way to view the life of a Victorian lady.

The Dress Diary of Mrs Anne Sykes:

Over the weekend we re-visited Haynes Motor Museum and took part in their Brick Week challenge which kept my daughter occupied. We tried karting at Haynes Outdoor Track with SouthWestKarting which was fun. We also used our lifetime National Trust membership to go to Montacute House which was a gorgeous Elizabethan Manor in Somerset.

I’ve been adding some hand quilting to my mini quilt and packed it away with us whilst we have been visiting Sherborne for a few days. There hasn’t been a lot of time for sewing but it’s always relaxing to stitch when there are a few spare minutes.

    That reminds me, we still have tickets to the cinema. Not sure which movie we’ll pick, though.

    I haven’t been to the theater in a while, I’ll have to change that soon. Also, that ‘dress diary’ book sounds super interesting! I’ve been running out of new things to read lately, so this could be the new thing I’m looking for! Thanks so much for sharing!

    It’s always refreshing to read about the positive moments in someone’s week, and your post brought a big smile to my face.

    I have been loving seeing the sunshine too. The karting sounds like great fun. We have been managing to get out for a few walks too.

    The book sounds like something I would like to read. I need a book for the summer vacation and it sounds perfect!
