The Mega Complicated Crushes of Lottie Brooks by Katie Kirby

The Mega Complicated Crushes of Lottie Brooks by Katie Kirby

Posted on September 7, 2022September 7, 2022 by jenny

My daughter came home from her first day in Year 6 with a new badge, that of Librarian! She is a real book-worm and I’m always finding her asleep next to her latest book. She reads a lot which I couldn’t be happier about and we love to read together. We were recently gifted a copy of The Mega Complicated Crushes of Lottie Brooks by Katie Kirby. I love Katie Kirby’s cartoons but I had no idea she had written books for children.

The Mega Complicated Crushes of Lottie Brooks

The Mega Complicated Crushes of Lottie Brooks is the third book in the hilarious and relatable bestselling series from the creator of Hurrah for Gin.

Lottie Brooks is BACK for more extremely embarrassing adventures as she goes on holiday and gets her very first boyfriend! Daniel and Lottie finally have their first date. A trip to a fancy gelato place in Brighton. But how do you eat ice-cream in front of your crush and is Lottie ready for her first kiss? I mean he’s nice and all but boys are still a bit gross, right?

The school holidays are looming, and with Lottie off camping to France for two weeks and Daniel spending most of the summer on a fancy Greek island it looks as if the young lovebirds will be cruelly ripped apart. But then Lottie makes friends with a French boy called Antoine – the language is an obvious barrier but does it matter when he’s THAT good looking?

My daughter loves this style of book which is written as a diary. Although she loves to read she also loves illustrations and the drawings of Katie Kirby are very funny and help illustrate the book well. My daughter is 10 and I thought she was the perfect age to read the book. It’s funny with lots of laugh out loud moments and we enjoyed reading it together. In fact my daughter loved it so much that we’ve put the first two books on her wishlist!

From her adult books and blogs, Katie Kirby has proven that she has a natural gift for finding the humour in everyday challenges, with her three adult books successfully selling over 250,000 copies through TCM. Katie again finds this humour in the unique tweenage years, capturing the giggle-worthy and cringe-inducing essence of this time of life. The Mega-Complicated Crushes of Lottie Brooks will have you laughing, gasping, and cringing from your toes all the way to your ears.

Written and illustrated by Katie Kirby, it was published by Puffin in paperback on 18th August 2022, priced £7.99. It is available from all good bookshops and perfect for children aged 9 and over.
