How to make your own re-useable face wipes

How to make your own re-useable face wipes

Posted on July 14, 2022 by jenny

I love stitching with Liberty London fabrics. I have a little stash which I love to use when I’m sewing. I’ve been thinking about making some re-useable face wipes for a while. We’re all trying to be more sustainable at the moment, and this is a great way to use up fabric and help the environment too.

Re-useable face wipes supplies:

15cm x 15cm Liberty fabric

15cm x 15 cm bamboo towelling

Scissors and pins

Matching thread

Sewing machine

Cut out a circle approximately 8cm from a piece of cardboard (a cereal box is good for this!) and use it to cut out 6 circles from your Liberty fabric and bamboo towelling. You can use one piece of fabric or smaller scraps of different fabrics, which is what I did.

The bamboo towelling frays a little but don’t worry.

Take one Liberty circle and one bamboo towelling circle and pin right sides together. Note – the bamboo towelling doesn’t have a ‘right’ side.

Set up your sewing machine with your matching thread and stitch round each face wipe with a 10mm seam allowance.

Make sure you leave a small gap to turn your face wipe the right way. I back stitched a little at the start and where I finished.

I clipped a few curves to make sure my face wipes would lie flat and turned the face wipes the right way. I then pressed each face wipe gently, including the seam allowance, pushing it back inside.

The final step was to top stitch around each face wipe to finish it off and close the gap.

I made four re-useable face wipes to start me off but they’ve already been stolen by my daughter so I might need to make some more. I hope I’ve shown you just how easy it is to make your own re-useable face wipes. They would make a great handmade gift too!

Those face wipes look beautiful and I love how they are all different. A great way to use up any scraps of fabric you may have lying around!
