Monday Happy List

Monday Happy Things {Week 383}

Starting the week by writing the Monday Happy List  is something I’ve been doing for a while. It’s a chance for me to sit down and reflect on the things that made me happy in the previous week, as well as to record some of our family adventures. It’s a post I always love to write.

Monday Happy Things {Week 383}

I’m so happy it’s half term and I have a few days off to spend with my family. Although the first half of term has flown I’m happy for a break.

Last week I read Shadowlands: a Journey through Lost Britain by Matthew Green. Drowned. Buried by sand. Decimated by plague. Plunged off a cliff. Matthew Green, a charismatic British historian and broadcaster, tells the extraordinary tales of the rise and demise of a dozen of Britain’s most remarkable ghost towns and villages, and explores their eerie and often-beautiful remains. It was a really interesting read, something a bit different from my normal read.

We spent the weekend in the pretty town of Old Hastings in West Sussex. We explored the site of the Battle of Hastings and Battle Abbey on the way. The weather was gorgeous and I don’t think we’ve walked so far in months!

Old Hastings is really beautiful and we found some wonderful places to eat, including delicious fish and chips. We loved exploring the old fisherman net sheds on the beach and the windy little streets.

Although we love our dog we really wanted a weekend on our own, so he went to the dog walker for the weekend. It meant we had freedom to do what we wanted, when we wanted. Ironically most of the places we went to were dog friendly and he would have loved them! We also visited Pevensey Castle, where the Normans arrived when they came to invade.

Our final destination was to Bexhill-on-Sea we could have lunch at the Sovereign Lights Cafe. I’m a huge fan of the band Keane and this has been a place I wanted to visit for years. It didn’t disappoint. We also visited the stunning art deco De La Warr Pavillion in Bexhill-on-Sea. We walked for miles!

Have a great week!

  1. I live in Sussex but have yet to visit Old Hastings. I’ve heard that is a lovely town, and hopefully I will make it there this summer. It sounds like you had a relaxed weekend, exploring new places.

  2. I haven’t been to Old Hastings since my teens, so this was quite the trip down memory lane for me, I loved the Battle Abbey, amazing how it has stood the test of time!

  3. I used to love Old Hastings when we used to go when I was a kid, but I’ve not been in such a long time. Sounds like you had a lovely time x
