Journey to the Lost River

Journey to the Lost River {book review}

Posted on September 22, 2021 by jenny

My daughter has been enjoying being back at school. She’s now in Year 5 and they have been learning all about the Amazon and reading Journey to the River Sea by Eva Ibbotson. She’s delighted to be learning about the Amazon and we were excited to be gifted a copy of Journey to the Lost River, from the creator of The Lost Book of Adventure: from the notebooks of the Unknown Adventurer.

The Lost Book of Adventure was published in 2019 and features sketchbooks and notebooks discovered by nature enthusiast Teddy Keen on a recent trip to the Amazon. The sketchbooks were filled with details of extraordinary adventures and escapades, expedition advice and survival methods, annotated with captivating coloured-pencil drawings. In Journey to the Lost River you can join the unknown adventurer on their first, transformative expedition in the Amazon.

Journey to the Lost River

Step back into the incredible world of the unknown adventurer, with this facsimile edition of their original expedition journal. This immersive, one-of-a-kind adventure book charts their first journey deep into the Amazon Rainforest: a journey sparked by a fold-out map that will lead the explorer in search of a secret buried deep in the rainforest…

Journey to the Lost River“I would mention the area’s name, but I can’t. All I can say is that this map would lead the two of us on an expedition into the heart of the unknown, hoping to find the last river for ourselves. What we discovered deep within the rainforest was enough to make me remove or change the place names in this journal – just like the map maker. Soon, you will know and understand . . .”

This stunningly illustrated adventure journal begins with a map discovered in the Royal Geographical Society, which shows a river that has been mysteriously erased. It leads the Unknown Adventurer and his companion Bibi on a search that will change their understanding of nature forever — culminating in a powerful conservationist message.

Journey to the Lost RiverFeaturing 128 pages of sketches, illustrations, incredible flora and fauna, survival tips and much, much more — it’s time to experience the natural world as never before.

Teddy Keen is the editor and compiler of the discovered works and illustrations of The Unknown Adventurer. In 2014, during a trip to the Amazon – Teddy, who is himself an illustrator and outdoor enthusiast – came across a sealed metal container in a remote hut on the banks of Jari River. The contents turned out to be the lifetime’s work of an unknown artist adventurer, which he has compiled into a series of books.

Journey to the Lost River was published in September, priced £14.99 and is perfect for ages 7-12.

    Wow, the artwork in that book looks amazing. I remember my girls doing the Amazon when they were younger too, a fascinating subject.

    This sounds like a fab book, the illustrations look beautiful. I’m looking forward to my son learning about various places for me to be able to research with him
