Win a Concrete Kit from Cosy Craft Club

I’ve always been a huge advocate on the benefits of crafting. I love to have a couple of projects on the go and find they are a great way of soothing my mind after a long day. It doesn’t matter if it’s creative colouring, hand sewing, paper cutting or trying something new on my Cricut – I love the act of creating something, especially if I can put the finished piece up on the wall, or gift it to someone. If you want to find out more about the benefits then read 4 reasons craft is good for you on the Crafts Council website.

Modern craft kits from Cosy Craft Club

As well as long-term craft projects, like my Shipping Forecast quilt, I often treat myself to a crafty subscription box. A monthly craft kit is such a fun way to discover a new craft, and is a great way of making something without having to invest in a lot of supplies. I was kindly gifted the latest craft box subscription from Cosy Craft Club. They send out beautiful modern craft kits from talented makers so subscribers can try a different craft every month.

The kit I received was a Concrete Kit from concretekits.co.uk. It contained everything needed to make my own concrete pot, as well as a candle to go inside it! I was really excited to receive this kit as I reviewed a book about crafting with concrete a few years ago but never got round to trying anything from it.

The Concrete Kit

Everything I needed was inside the box and I couldn’t wait to get started. It was a lot simpler than I thought.

I mixed the sand and concrete powder with water, then divided the mixture into two bags so I could add some black dye to half of the mixture. This stage was a little messy so I made sure to cover the table – and I wish I’d worn disposable gloves!

There were two cardboard containers in the kit, one to pour the concrete into, with a smaller container to make the mould for the candle. I poured the original concrete into the larger container, adding the black concrete on top. I used tape to hold the smaller cup in place whilst the concrete set, and left it to dry for 48 hours.

After 48 hours I carefully removed the cardboard container from inside the concrete pot (so it could be used to make the candle). I removed the larger cardboard container too and admired my concrete pot. I love the imprint from the mould I used and think it makes it really unique.

The candle was easy to make as I only needed to microwave the wax flakes in the container and pour it into the container. I made sure to place the wick inside the mould, keeping it in place with a small stick. The candle was left to dry overnight to make sure it had set.

I loved this craft kit. The instructions were easy to follow, everything I needed was included and the end result was a unique candle holder. or little pot when the candle is finished.
