Monday Happy List: life in lockdown {Week 1}

Posted on March 30, 2020March 30, 2020 by jenny

I love to start the week by writing the Monday Happy List. It’s a chance for me to sit down and reflect on the things that made me happy in the previous week, as well as to record some of our family adventures. It’s usually a post I love to write but obviously life has changed considerably for us and everyone else in the UK over the last few weeks. It’s a bit of a cliche but I do love this quotation by Alice Morse Earle: “Every day may not be good…but there’s something good in every day”. Life is hard at the moment for everyone but I still want to try and record some of our happier moments.

Monday Happy List {Week 285}

First up is I changed my blog header from the winter version. Ok it’s a really small thing but we have officially started Spring and the clocks went forward.  Winter felt long so I’m trying to channel positivity about Spring and being able to spend more time in our garden. I spent my birthday money on some seeds which should hopefully arrive this week.

PE with Joe Wicks

We managed some school work, Maths and English in the morning but science, history and geography in the afternoons. We supplemented the work that school shared with us by joining in with PE with Joe Wicks (exhausting!) and my son was able to enjoy his weekly art class with Blank Canvas Art Club via Zoom. This week we need to squeeze in some karate too as I really don’t want my children to forget everything.

My daughter loves the idea of everyone putting rainbow pictures in their windows (I have a free rainbow printable here). We’ve been looking out for them when we go for a walk every day. Thankfully the walk has been a real highlight of our day, except for watching the daily news briefing. We haven’t managed to get another online delivery slot so will have to consider bigger shops although neither of us want to risk going to a large supermarket right now.

We’ve walked everywhere. We are so fortunate to live on the outskirts of London with Ruislip Woods a 10 minute walk away. We have plenty of spaces to take our little pup for a walk and more adventurous places to take the children on their bikes if they need a more challenging walk. We’ve loaded Pokemon Go onto our phones which keeps Little Sis busy too.

online art class

My son’s birthday party had to be cancelled so we spent Saturday playing computer games and enjoying delicious Baby Yoda cupcakes my friend had made. We played Frantics, Uno and Ticket to Ride which was fun. It’s going to be hard separating the weeks from the weekends so we might be doing a lot more of this!

Stay at home, protect the NHS and stay safe.

    It was the craziest week ever, but it sounds like you found a fabulous balance! You are lucky, our school sent nothing home and my daughter is in Year 6… possibly last ever day of Primary school. Maybe that rant is for a post one day! 😉 We have our rainbow proudly displayed and we are swapping teddy bears daily too. It’s all about spreading cheer! Hope you have a fab week! Sim x

    Sorry to hear your son’s birthday party was cancelled but sounds like he still had a fantastic day having cupcakes and playing games. Your week sounds so relaxed and looks like kids had a great time as well.

    People in our area are also talking about doing rainbows, as well as teddy bears. Oddly enough I feel almost like winter never really got here for us, we had almost no snow.

    Went have spent last week trying to get some kind of routine too. It’s always nice to go for a walk isn’t it, I didn’t appreciate them like I do now. Sorry about your son’s birthday party, my niece had her 5 birthday party cancelled too, perhaps a belated birthday party could happen in the future 🙂

    I love spotting the rainbows as well. I think it is a great idea. We have had lovely weather so it has been good to be able to do some gardening.

    It sounds like you have had a good week all things considered. So sorry your son’s party had to be cancelled it sounds like you still managed to have an awesome day though! The rainbows in all the windows are certainly making our walks more colourful and cheery too!

    Ahh such a shame about your sons birthday party. We’ve been playing ticket to ride a lot too and having fun. I seem to be more buys in lockdown than I was before! lol Mich x

    I have been doing loads of reading while in lockdown, and to be honest, I am actually enjoying it. I could live as a hermit. The kids are missing being able to play at the park.
