Did you have plans to travel this year? We’re always a bit last minute so hadn’t thought further than February half term. Luckily we had a lovely few days in an Airbnb (which I hope to write more about at some point). With any travel plans on hold for the next few months, now is the time to start making our dream wish list for when life returns to normal.
Making plans to travel again
For the past two years we’ve visited Duinrell in The Netherlands. The first time we booked with Eurocamp, the second time we booked directly with the park. It’s a wonderful place for a holiday with modern accommodation (or bring your own tent!), a theme and water park on site. Our last visit included 2 free hours in the water park every day and it pretty much tired the children out. We love self catering and our little caravan was the perfect base for exploring the parks, or venturing further afield into the pretty Dutch cities in that part of The Netherlands.
A few years ago we tried a short cruise and loved it. Although the children were a little younger they embraced life on board and swam in the pools, went off to the kids clubs and enjoyed the special food that was cooked for them. Every year we are tempted to book another cruise, the full board Silversea cruises look very appealing. We love that the view changes and you get to visit some amazing destinations. There are so many countries we would love to visit and cruising seems the perfect way so that everyone can relax.
I’m sure you’ve guessed that I’m a reluctant camper. We’ve been camping a few times and although I haven’t loved it, I haven’t hated it either. We’ve been camping with the Scouts and last year we went camping with my sister and her family. We were able to pitch out tents next to each other which meant the kids had amazing freedom to run around. The campsite was next to the beach and there was a small swimming pool so we were spoilt for choice of things to do.
Glamping is slightly more appealing to me than camping. We had a wonderful few days in a safari tent in our own little woodland. There was a camp fire and separate loo/shower block which made it bearable! It was great for the children as they were able to run around and play in the woods. The safari tent was huge with a separate cooking, sleeping and living area. I would love to do something like that again, or perhaps a Shepherd’s Hut or yurt.
Before starting a family I was a huge fan of city breaks. I dislike flying but love zipping on to the Eurostar for a weekend away. I absolutely adore Belgium and have been lucky to have visited Brussels, Bruges, Ghent, Antwerp and Ypres. We’ve also loved exploring Paris, Lille and Amsterdam. There are so many more cities I would love to visit with the children now they are a little older.
