Celebrate Dr Seuss Day: Truffula trees craft

Celebrate Dr Seuss Day: Truffula trees craft

Posted on January 26, 2020February 19, 2025 by jenny

If you love sharing a book with your child then you will probably know of Dr Seuss. But did you know that there is also a Dr Seuss Day which is celebrated on 2nd March? It’s a lovely reason to pick up a Dr Seuss book, re-read an old favourite or discover a new story.

We’re big fans of The Lorax , it’s a brilliant book for kids (and adults too!) and as relevant today as the day it was written: “I am the Lorax who speaks for the trees, which you seem to be chopping as fast as you please!” Before being harvested to extinction, the truffula was endemic to Truffula Valley. It grew under the watchful eye of the Lorax, the guardian of the forest who speaks for the trees, which inspired our Truffula trees craft.

Truffula trees craft supplies:

Yellow jumbo craft sticks
Black Sharpie
Pink, yellow and blue embroidery thread
Hot glue/hot glue gun

Lay out a scrap piece of paper to work on (a paper plate works well too). Colour thick diagonal stripes onto your yellow craft sticks and set aside.

Cut about 100cm of the blue embroidery thread and carefully wrap it around three fingers.

Carefully slide the wound thread off your fingers and tie the loose end around the centre into a double knot.

Carefully cut the loop on each side.

Squirt some hot glue on the top of your yellow and black craft stick and stick the coloured thread on top, moving around the pieces to make the tree look more full.

Do this with the pink and yellow embroidery thread until you have three colourful truffula trees.

My twins are obsessed with Dr Seuss books (and who could blame them) we will certainly give these a go when we next get the craft box out.

My niece is a huge fan of Dr Seuss and I think she would love doing this, more so as I have a few books to take with me to visit her later this week x
