Story stones are a great way to introduce the idea of story telling at home. We always collect smooth beach pebbles when we are at the beach and these are perfect for story stones. My drawing skills are pretty bad so I glue pictures to the stones and they last for ages.
Previously we have made Gruffalo Story Stones and our favourite, the Gingerbread Man Story Stones. With Christmas coming up I made Nativity Story Stones, and these are great for telling the story of the Nativity.

How to make easy Nativity story stones
The most important thing is finding suitable pictures for your story stones. I have a Twinkl membership, anyone can sign up for free, and they have thousands of brilliant educational resources. I found a great Nativity word mat and the images were the perfect size. I printed them out and cut around each one.

I found some smooth stones and tried to match the size of the picture to the stones. Then I glued them in place with Mod Podge. I left them to dry then gave them another coat of Mod Podge, just to make sure the pictures were sealed.

There were 7 stones: Mary, Joseph, Jesus, a shepherd, the Angel Gabriel, the wise men and gifts. My 4 year old is learning about the Nativity in Reception and my Year 2 son knows the story. I am hoping the story stones will help them re-tell the story and also learn about the meaning of Christmas.

This is such a fab idea! I have never seen Nativity stones before but it’s fab! 🙂
It’s the first time I see something like this and it’s a fab idea. I might do something similar for my garden for the summer. They look so nice.
