My First Bananagrams

My First Bananagrams

Today my son started Year 2 but I’m so glad to have my daughter at home for a few more days! I’ve mentioned a few of the family games we’ve recently started playing. Today I’m sharing another one, My First Bananagrams, which my 4 year old really enjoys. You’ve probably heard of Bananagrams, a word game which doesn’t need a board. Now there is My First Bananagrams, a brand new game designed to help ripen your little learner’s vocabulary.

Aimed at age 4 and over, the early-learners version differs from the original family word game with colourful lower-case letters and double-sided tiles, designed to make it easier for mini-wordsmiths to race to complete their word grid. My First Bananagrams also breaks away from the bunch with a distinct ripening green banana-shaped pouch.

Designed to cater to a wide range of abilities, My First Bananagrams includes a collection of fun games, with 10 curriculum-based mini games that are designed to become more challenging, as confidence and vocabulary grows.

I really like this game. Its size obviously helps because it is easy to pack away in a handbag or weekend bag. I also like heh fact my children were enjoying the games without realising they were learning!

We found the main letter game was actually too hard but that’s not surprising with a 4 and 6 year old. However the game includes a little booklet with lots of different ideas to play with the letter tiles, all of which were really fun and do-able for my children. There’s nothing worse than a game you don’t quite understand but we loved the versatility of My First Bananagrams. My 4 year old has been using the letters to identify letters and blend sounds, whereas my 6 year old has been spelling words, using the vowel and digraph tiles. You can play on your own or with up to 4 players.

My First Bananagrams is priced around £14.99, aimed at boys and girls 4+ and available from Amazon and other good toy shops.

It’s such a great way to squeeze in some learning without them noticing too 🙂
