Easy woven heart decorations

Easy woven heart decorations

Posted on January 20, 2016August 26, 2021 by jenny

This year I am really looking forward to working with some great craft brands and I am excited to be sharing a post today which has been sponsored by Bostik. We received a wonderful box of craft supplies and Bostik glues to make something special for Valentines Day. With both children off sick from school yesterday, it was the perfect activity to keep them occupied.

The craft supplies included brightly coloured paper and felt so we decided to make some Scandi style felt heart decorations for our living room. Traditionally made at Christmas time, I didn’t see why we couldn’t have them around for Valentine’s Day too.

Easy woven heart decorations

We used two colours of felt, ric rac, scissors and Bostik White Glu.

My 5 year old had tried paper weaving at school so we tried the same technique with felt. I cut two pieces of felt, approximately 15 cm long and 5cm wide, with rounded ends.

I folded them in half from top to bottom and cut them in half, then made a cut two thirds up from the straight edge. From this my son could weave the ends to create a simple pattern. We dabbed a tiny bit of Bostik White Glu to ensure the ends stayed down.

Once he had mastered this we made it a little more complicated by adding a second slit so there were 3 pieces of felt to weave. Again we used theĀ Bostik White Glu to keep the pieces in place.

Then we tried making a traditional heart shared basket. We used the same shape but didn’t cut it in half, instead cutting a slit and carefully weaving the pieces of felt around each other.

The great thing about felt is that it is really flexible and gives a little so we were able to manipulate it to make a lovely basket. We cut a short length of ric rac to make a handle, glueing it in place with the Bostik White Glu.

I think they make great decorations for this time of year. We’re going to stick the flat ones to cards and send them to family. Then make some more baskets for a garland to hang over the fireplace.
