I’ve spent this evening wrapping the majority of our Christmas presents and Christmas stockings. I’ve spent ages Pinning gift ideas and like to make my gifts nice and early so I’m not rushing to finish them off on Christmas Eve. Many of my gifts this year are handmade or bought from independent shops, I love to give something special.
My children like to get involved with our handmade gift tradition too and this year we tried something a little different – we used one of my 5 year olds’ drawings on a cushion via Snapfish.
Making personalised gifts with children’s drawings
My son was really excited as he loves drawing. We decided to make something for Daddy and he drew a great picture showing us all wearing our favourite clothes. He used his A4 sketchbook so I had to crop his picture slightly as the cushion pads are 11″x11″ or 17″x17″ – next time I do this I will make sure I give him square paper first!
The personalised sofa cushion arrived today and we love the result. The colours are vibrant and the cushion is made with a heavyweight fabric with a canvas feel to it. It is backed with a lovely soft faux suede in a neutral beige colour.
As my son really liked the idea of his picture on a cushion I thought I would make him a photo cushion too. His drawings are everywhere so I chose one I thought would make a great cushion for him, the night sky with planets and stars. I designed this cushion in the smaller size and I think his drawing makes a great cushion. I can’t wait to see his face when he opens this on Christmas Day!
Both cushion covers have a hidden zip so I can remove them to wash them – this is always a necessity with two small children with sticky fingers.
My son is notoriously bad at keeping a secret so I’m really hoping he’ll be able to keep his handmade gift a surprise. I am really pleased with the whole process of uploading my images, editing them and the finished products. You can use any of your favourite photos on a cushion, such as your most popular Instagram image, a quote you found on Pinterest or something funny your child said. What would you make?
