Minions film review

Posted on July 4, 2015 by jenny

Excitement about the new Minions film reached fever pitch this week. We received a lovely Minion Cinema Pack from frubes which included cinema tickets, frubes, a Minions inspired cool bag and sticker book.

#FrubesCinemaTrip

On Friday after school we packed our Minions cool bag with frubes and sweet treats and went to the cinema. As well as the usual flavours, Strawberry, Red Berries and Peach, you can currently purchase the NEW banana flavour, launched in light of the Minions favourite food. Frubes’ also have an exciting new on-pack promotion to win ‘Minions of prizes’ such as Minions branded scooters, backpacks and outdoor activity sets in conjunction with the release of the new film.

Once at the cinema the children twisted our arms and we bought them a Kids box which included a squishy Minion each too.

Odeon minions

The Minions film is a prequel to Despicable Me but it really doesn’t matter if you haven’t seen any of the Despicable Me franchise.

Evolving from single-celled yellow organisms at the dawn of time, Minions live to serve, but find themselves working for a continual series of unsuccessful masters, from T. Rex to Napoleon. Without a master to grovel for, the Minions fall into a deep depression. But one minion, Kevin, has a plan; accompanied by his pals Stuart and Bob, Kevin sets forth to find a new evil boss for his brethren to follow. Their search leads them to Villain-Con and Scarlet Overkill, the world’s first-ever super-villainess.

Minions film

We all loved the film. Much of the action takes place in 1960s London which was a pleasant surprise. It was really funny seeing Stuart, Bob and Kevin at famous London landmarks. Needless to say they soon realised Scarlett Overkill needed to be stopped from taking over Buckingham Palace and the World.

I loved recognising all the famous voices which included Sandra Bullock for Scarlett Overkill, Jon Hamm for Scarlett’s husband Herb, Jennifer Saunders who voices The Queen and Geoffrey Rush who narrates the film. Pierre Coffin, the Director, voices all of the Minions and by the end of the film I found I was beginning to understand them. The soundtrack was good too with lots of 1960s songs I recognised from The Who, The Kinks, Lennon and McCartney, although nothing stood out like Happy from Despicable Me 2.

Frubes are available in all leading supermarkets with an RRP 9 x 40g pack £2.

I went to see the minions movie with my boyfriend last week and we thought it was great! Personally I prefer despicable me, but it was certainly funny!

I have to be honest I haven’t seen the despicable me films, so this would be a good starting point for me!

I am glad you all loved the film, i’ve heard some pretty mixed reviews on it so far, so I will wait for it to come out on DVD!
