Win a bundle of Truly British fabrics from The Bead and Button Company

You know how much I love to sew. I’ve been making lots of doll quilts for my daughter as the size means I never get bored! I was recently sent an amazing fabric bundle of 6 Truly British Fat Quarters from The Bead and Button Company to craft with.

win a bundle of FQ - the gingerbread house

The Truly British fabric selection contained 6 different fabrics, each measuring 45cm x 55cm and 100% cotton. The selection was really good and I decided to use five of the pieces to make a maverick star doll quilt from my favourite craft book Doll Quilts.

It was surprisingly easy to put together, I cut the fabric and machine stitched them over one evening.

Last night I did the quilting and binding. I really enjoyed working with these fabrics. I was worried that they would clash a little as the prints were quite loud (for me!) but I think they work brilliantly. I was so happy I even made my own binding!

This was the first quilt which I pieced like this (I much prefer EPP and hand sewing), it was also the first time I machine quilted and made my own binding. I know it’s not perfect but I’m thinking a quick wash will make it super soft and wrinkly. What do you think?

  1. my daughter is really into making dresses for dolls at the moment, these would be ideal for keeping her occupied over the summer

  2. was thinking about cushion covers however I have to admit, after seeing Emmas previous comment, I like the idea of bunting. would look good as name bunting

  3. I want to make my daughters a Wendy House! Yes – my dad says he could create a frame and I would love to design and make the rest myself!

  4. My wife is thinking of making cushion covers just before we decorate or second bedroom and hasn’t made her mind up about the colour scheme yet! This may help her decide!

  5. I’d love to make some coordinating sewing accessories with this bundle. Pincushions, needlecases, scissor pouches etc.

  6. I have lots of ideas but would need to have the fabric in front of me to be able to make a decision 🙂

  7. My daughter has just got a sewing machine for her birthday so will be rustling up some fantastic doll fashions.

  8. I think they’d look good as drawstring bags that I’m planning for pegs in the kitchen – one for shoe polishes, one for cleaning cloths, one for spare carrier bags, etc.

  9. I would actually give these to my friend as a gift as she’s really creative and is always making her own clothes and accessories.

  10. I would make toothfairy cushions for my children. My son has his first wobbly tooth and I was thinking it would need to do it soon.

  11. I would make a design with them all to make some window seat covers by adding some of my own plain fabric with them.

  12. I am teaching my 7 year old nephew to sew – so we’d probably make some bunting for his bedroom, or the little satchel bags he likes to make. I love your quilt though – so perhaps I’ll include some into a pushchair blanket for the baby too.

  13. If I won I would love to make kitchen accessories – I’m thinking tea cosies, pot holders and oven mitts! Lovely prints!

  14. A lovely selection of patriotic fabrics perfect for bunting to use at events such as fetes, street parties, royal events.
