This year I have two little people who I really want to make Christmas special for. I know Christmas doesn’t have to be about spending lots of money but I may have been a bit silly with the amount of presents they have! Fortunately I also love to save money where I can which is why we’ve been busy getting our craft on and making our own decorations.
I thought I’d share 5 of our favourite handmade Christmas decorations:
Handprint family Christmas tree – The toddler loves to paint so really enjoyed this craft. We all covered our hands in green paint and carefully placed them side by side on a large sheet of paper – daddy first, then me, the toddler and the baby. You might have to use your imagination with this one but I love our family Christmas tree.
Scrabble tile decorations – I always snap up old Scrabble sets when I see them in charity shops. I keep the plastic and cardboard tiles and put the rest in the recycling! Normally the tiles sit in a huge glass jar but they also look great made into Christmas decorations. Just spell out your favourite seasonal word and place on stick-on felt sheets, cut round the word and you have an easy decoration. You can easily attach a ribbon and hang from your tree too.
Wooden stirrer snowflakes – I have to admit to picking up a few extra stirrers on our last few visits to the local coffee shop! They make great snowflake decorations. We coloured ours in and dabbed a little glue in the centre of each to hold them in place.
Cinnamon hearts – this is on our list for tomorrow. I found a simple recipe online to make them using shop bought apple sauce and cinnamon powder. As well as looking cute I know they’ll smell great as well.
Button trees – the toddler enjoyed looking through the button box and picking out the green buttons. I threaded through them with embroidery cotton and added different buttons for the star and tree base.
