Over the past few evenings I’ve been busy making 12 festive decorations from Cath Kidston’s latest book – Make Your Own Christmas Decorations. Featuring 12 projects the book includes the patterns as well as the felt, thread, pompoms and cord so all you’ll need is a basic sewing kit and some toy stuffing! There are patterns for a Christmas Robin, Father Christmas, Striped Stocking, Gift-Wrapped Present, Christmas Tree, Frosty Snowman, Winter Reindeer, Holly & Berries, Christmas pudding, Snowy Cottage, Festive Stanley and Christmas Angel.
Make your own Christmas decorations!
Each project is well laid out and includes a large colour image of the finished decoration, templates, and step-by-step illustrated instructions so you can’t go wrong!
The decorations are perfect for hanging on a tree, on a garland across a mantle or even on a little tree in the toddler’s room. If we fight over who has them I may just make another set! They’d also make great gift tags and you could make them using lots of different colour combinations.
A couple of tips-
the felt isn’t the best quality so you may want to buy better quality
there’s only just enough felt so I recommend tracing the templates and cutting them all out, then laying them over the felt so you don’t run out (which I might have done!).
if you divide the cord between 12 each piece is quite short so you may want to substitute with ribbon for longer lengths
I really enjoyed making these felt Christmas decorations so thought I should offer a copy of her book to any of my readers who might like to have a go themselves. Each decoration is quite simple so is perfect for Cath Kidston fans, those wanting to put their own stamp on their Christmas decorations or a great gift for a younger sewer.

November 6, 2012 at 10:58 amI like ‘I believe in father Christmas’ by Gred Lake. I dont think it was really intended to have been such a hit that it actually was. It reminds me of the 80’s and having the traditional NOW music christmas albums on – with the boxing day party and new years bashes, tinsel and dissapointment I saw from the grown ups who needless to say – werent great at hiding thier issues from us children (Break ups / heartaches / drunken remenising of deceased family members who should be with us celebrating.) – Now dont get me wrong, These are fond memories I hold, really happy times – something id rather not forget. This song brings those emotions back to me, something I remember dearly as the magic of Christmas feels very different now I am all grown up.

November 9, 2012 at 1:58 pmI know it’s not a pop song buy ‘All I Want for Christmas is my Two Front Teeth’ always reminds me of my Grandad. When I was eight I had two very wobbly front teeth and he always joked that he was going to put string round them and pull them out for me. Then, two weeks before Christmas we were playing in the park with a ball, low and behold I wasn’t very good at catching so he threw the ball, I missed and my two front teeth came clean out! You can guess the rest on Christmas Day….. 😀
