Last year I boldly stated that I wasn’t going to buy any new craft supplies until I had used up my overflowing stash. I’m afraid I broke my promise. Not only did I fail to plough through my stash and make everything, I also bought some new items.
I’m beginning to think that I should give away the unopened craft kits I have. I think that if I didn’t want to open them and make them when I got them, then I probably shouldn’t waste any more time on them (and feel guilty about storing them!).
Moda Matchbox Quilt No. 3
A few weeks ago I was looking for something to make and saw the Moda Matchbox Quilt kits and knew I wanted to try one. I enjoy making mini quilts or doll quilts and have made a few. They are the perfect size for me as I get bored so easily.
The Moda Matchbox series consists of 9 mini quilts and each kit contains everything to make a 6″ x 6″ quilt. I picked Matchbox Quilt No. 3 to make a pretty blue mini. Inside the box was fabrics for the quilt top, backing, binding (all in one handy printed piece), embroidery floss, batting and instructions.
I cut out the pieces and used my machine to start stitching them together.
It was a simple pattern and the instructions were easy to follow.
When I had finished piecing the top I placed all the layers together and pinned them together.
I added a running stitch through the layers with 6 strands of embroidery thread. It gave it a lovely chunky feel.
Then I trimmed around the fabric with my rotary cutter to make a neat 6″ x 6″ mini quilt. I added the binding by hand to finish my mini quilt.
It’s a cute little mini and would make a great pot holder. I’m tempted to try the other kits in the series, although I really shouldn’t be buying any more craft supplies right now!
What have you been making recently?

This is really cute and it’s so nice that you do crafts as I’m not particuarly crafty so don’t do anything like this x
That looks really effective. Great as a pot holder as you said or in a nautical themed bedroom
