We’ve decorated a lot of painted rocks over the summer holidays. We’re all addicted to making them and we’ve ended up with such a huge stash that we’ve been hiding them wherever we go! I love learning new techniques so was excited to receive a copy of the Rock Art Handbook: Techniques and Projects for Painting, Coloring, and Transforming Stones by Samantha Sarles.
Rock art is showing up everywhere – on Etsy, at craft shows, online and on hidden rocks around your
neighbourhood. Painting and hiding rocks has become hugely popular in the last 12 months, as adults and kids decorate stones and hide them for others to find, admire and re-hide. You only have to look at Facebook to see how popular this is. ‘Love On The Rocks UK ‘has over 80,000 followers. The authors own Facebook page ‘Color Made Happy’ has 155,000 followers.
Rock Art Handbook: Techniques and Projects for Painting, Coloring, and Transforming Stones
The whole family has been enjoying the Rock Art Handbook. Sam Sarles shares her favourite tips and techniques for transforming the humble rock into a work of art. Discover how to get great results with puffy paint, acrylic, oil, pastels, nail varnish, art pens, embossing, stamping and much more. With more than 30 step-by-step projects, this book is the comprehensive rock art resource.
There are chapters on Finding the Right Rocks and Prepping Rocks, Sealants, Acrylic Paint, Markers and Pens, Drawing Mandalas and Zentangle Designs, Marbling, Rocks and Kids and Possible Uses. It’s a lovely book and I’ve learned so many new tips and tricks. I recently invested in some lovely new pens which have been great for trying out some of the techniques in the book.
