A visit to Dinosaurs in the Wild, Greenwich Peninsula, London

My 6 year old is just crazy about dinosaurs so it wasn’t hard to accept an invitation to Dinosaurs in the Wild on the Greenwich Peninsula, London. We don’t often go to this side of London but it didn’t take long on the Underground and before we knew it we were blinking in the sunshine at North Greenwich.

A visit to Dinosaurs in the Wild, Greenwich Peninsula, London

Dinosaurs in the Wild is just a 10 minute walk from North Greenwich Underground station. We arrived and were greeted by the friendly staff and ushered into the huge pop up building which houses Dinosaurs in the Wild. We had been invited to attend an exclusive pre-visit talk with one of the UK’s leading palaeontologist, Dr Darren Naish, who was also the scientific advisor for Dinosaurs in the Wild.

He spoke for about half an hour and we learned so many interesting facts about dinosaurs. Apparently everything we thought we knew was pretty out of date, and thanks to recent discoveries we now know that dinosaurs were ever so slightly hairy! We also discovered more about the link between dinosaurs and pigeons and my children were pretty excited to discover that according to Dr Naish, dinosaurs are not extinct! It was a really insightful talk but it was time to move on to the next step in the experience, posing for a photograph against a green screen. It was pretty funny pulling faces and the photo we received at the end of the experience makes for a great souvenir of our visit.

Tickets are timed so we waited for our slot to begin the immersive experience. During your time at Dinosaurs in the Wild you will be transported back 67 million years to watch living dinosaurs. It reminded me of our visit to Shrek’s Adventure London, another immersive guided experience which the kids just loved.

We always had a guide with us and this really added to the fun experience. The children couldn’t really decide if the experience was real or not, it was pretty believable! Thanks to the 3D glasses (protecting our eyes from the UV) and the costumed guides we were totally transported into the experience. We got to ride across the jaw-dropping Cretaceous plains, watching the different dinosaurs in their environment. Then we visited TimeBase67, a research station where scientists study dinosaurs.

A visit to Dinosaurs in the Wild

We got to see prehistoric animals in cages, watch dino babies hatching, even witness an autopsy on a giant dinosaur. I think our favourite bit was where the kids could put their hands into piles of poo to discover more about their diet (you can check out the my Insta Stories for more!).

The experience ended with a bit of an adventure and I don’t want to give too much away because you should really go and experience it. It involved amazing panoramic views of prehistoric life which were very realistic. A little bit too realistic ….

Everyone loved the experience. It was so much fun and would make a great treat for dinosaur fans. You can visit Dinosaurs in the Wild on the Greenwich Peninsula, London until the 2nd September. Find out more and buy tickets from their website.

It’s a shame it’s so far from me because as a family (big Jurassic park fans) we would of loved to visit this although I don’t think my son would put his hand in the Dino poop x

I’ve never heard of this place before, but it looks great, so interesting and a great place to learn about dinosaurs all up close.

I heard about this and was really interested to go, but I believe my son is still too little to go there and enjoy. I’ll have to wait for a few more years.
