A few weeks ago my daughter and I were shopping in Hobbycraft where we found a huge display of air drying clay alongside some inspiration of things to make. My daughter wanted to try making something at home so we bought a huge pack of white air drying clay and went home.
How to make a Valentine’s clay handprint keepsake
We cut the block of clay in half and rolled out one half until it was large enough to place both her hands on it.
She pressed both her hands into the clay and I drew around them with a plastic knife.
When she removed her hands I carefully cut out each hand, smoothing any edges.
To make the photo frame we needed to cut out part of the hand. We couldn’t find our heart shaped cutter so used a flower shape instead.
At this point you should make a small hole in one of the fingers if you want to hang your Valentine’s clay handprint keepsake. We wanted to make ours into fridge magnets so left them to dry overnight. Whilst they were drying I found a few photos which were the same size as the cutter, it’s important that the faces fit inside the hole!
When our Valentine’s clay handprint keepsakes were dry we attached the photo to the back of the keepsakes with sticky tape and glued two magnets on either side of the photo. I think they’re cute but next time I would add my daughter’s name or the year. Let me know if you try this at home!
