This year is all about making some of the things in my craft stash. I love working with felt and a few years ago asked for a cute London bus pin cushion kit by crafty nana for Christmas. I’m not sure why I never made it. Everything was pre-cut so it was pretty simple to stitch together. For some reason I thought it should be the first WIP I finished in 2018.
London bus pin cushion kit by crafty nana
This was a lovely craft kit containing pre-cut felt pieces, a needle, thread and stuffing. It was actually a really lovely thing to sew over a couple of evenings.
The instructions were easy to follow with lots of pictures. I started by stitching the windows onto the bus pieces. Then I stitched the bus pieces together.
It was a little awkward but as it was the shape of an old hop on/hop off style London bus I knew what shape it should be, which helped a lot.
I stuffed it, trying to keep the shape above the front window and around the back door. This was my first soft sculpture and definitely the most complicated item I’ve made from felt.
I love London buses, they are so iconic, especially the old Routemaster’s. I’m not sure I’ll use it as a pincushion but it will be a welcome addition to my collection of London buses!
