Today we were walking to school and my children berated me for our lack of Halloween decorations! I was pretty loathe to give up my day decorating, especially as I thought the Halloween decorations I picked up a few weeks ago in poundworld were brilliant.
Clearly I needed to up my game to impress the 5 and 7 year old. A few weeks ago I bought a laser cut MDF spider web online. I thought I would use it to make my own Halloween wreath. I gave it two coats of white paint which took ages – if I try this again I would spray paint it! My idea was to attach my daughter’s Sylvanian Families characters to it using invisible thread. Unfortunately my idea didn’t work, so instead I used the decorative metal wreath I picked up at The Knitting & Stitching Show a few weeks ago.
Sylvanian Families Halloween wreath decoration
The decorative metal wreath is brilliant. It opens up and you can fill it with anything, making it the perfect seasonal decoration. I’m thinking sprouts or Quality Street for Christmas!
For Halloween I found as many Halloween Sylvanian Families figures I could find, as well as silly eye balls and Halloween decorations. I opened up the wreath and arranged everything inside, adding a bit of cobweb fabric when it needed padding out.
I closed it up and clipped it shut then attached the metal hook to hang it. It’s the easiest decoration ever and my children loved spotting their favourite toys inside!
I’m sure I won’t be able to keep their toys for long but I think it makes a quirky decoration for Halloween.
