A Fairy Trail in the Woods {Clanger Wood }

A Fairy Trail in the Woods {Clanger Wood }

A few weeks ago we were staying at my mum’s in Wiltshire. We wanted to go and see some bluebells so headed to Clanger Woods. This is a lovely little area managed by the Woodland Trust. We parked up and spotted a poster which read ‘FAIRY TRAIL’. Now, my children love fairy play so I thought this would help keep them occupied as we walked through the woods.

We looked a little closer and found another more detailed poster which read: Welcome to the Nature Detectives Fairy Trail – Blue and Belle are woodland fairies and they need your help!

We downloaded the Nature Detectives Fairy Trail app and set off, looking for markers as we went. Clanger Woods is a really lovely place. My son took his radio controlled car which was perfect and he made sure to keep it on the path.

We saw loads of different flowers and the bluebells were stunning. We visited a few weeks ago and I wish we could have visited a week or two later to see the bluebells again.

However, I have to admit that we didn’t manage to find any of the markers on the Fairy Trail! We kept following the signs but they kept sign posting further and further into the woods and the children didn’t want to keep walking, which was a shame as they really wanted to spot Blue and Belle. I’m not sure if this means we are a lazy family of that the expectations were a little high for little legs.

Anyway, once we were home I looked at the Woodland Trust site which has lots more activities on it to carry on the fairy magic at home. We were even able to sign up for real mail, packed with more about Blue and Belle and other things to encourage everyone to get outside more.

The Nature Detectives Fairy Trail app works in more than 20 woods around the country. And it’s really easy to use – just follow the markers and tap the app to bring the fairies to life. Let me know if you’ve tried the app or come across a trail yet.

    I love these activities, the UK has beautiful landscapes for kids and families to enjoy the nature. It’s a great way to teach children to love nature and also the parents have a relaxing experience! x

    I love the idea of this to give your walk a little purpose and focus – a shame it didn’t work out for you this time round.
