My 6 year old has been off school for the past few days with chicken pox. He’s been quite poorly and Minecraft has been the only thing to cheer him up. To scrape him away from it we re-used our cellophane sweet wrappers to make this fun holly and berries winter sun catcher.
We used: white card, green and red cellophane pieces, contact paper, scissors
Holly and berries winter sun catcher
First I drew some holly leaves and berries on a sheet of card. Then I cut them out using my Swann-Morton scalpel. If I made this again I would only cut out the inside of the leaves, and cut them out at the end.
Then I went around them with a black sharpie to make the edges thicker.
Then we placed our cut out leaves and berries on a sheet of contact paper. This was the sticky part which my 6 year old enjoyed. My son cut the sweet wrappers into small pieces and filled the cut outs – green for the leaves and red for the berries.
When he had finished I placed them on a piece of contact paper and cut round each one.
You can see we made quite a few. We though about making them into a wreath but for now have framed a few in my favourite double sided brass frame. They look so pretty on the windowsill with the sun coming through.
