Wild Olive’s Summer Stitching Club doll quilt

I love joining in with Wild Olive’s seasonal stitching clubs. I like to share my progress too but it seems that I often forget! Last summer I took part in Wild Olive’s Summer Stitching Club. You get sent a pattern each week and it builds into a cute little doll quilt or cushion cover using English Paper Piecing and hexagons – my two favourite things. This was the first I took part in and to be honest I found it hard to set aside the time but had a big push and made the bulk of it over one weekend.

It came together really quickly in the end. Over a couple of evenings I hand quilted inside the yellow hexagons. The word quilting makes me shudder but this was simple and effective for such a small piece of work.

To be honest I was quite scared of finishing it which was probably why I was staring at it for so long. However, one night I bit the bullet. First of all I trimmed the edges to make the sides even. It felt totally wrong to cut through my stitches!

Then I made some binding to co-ordinate with the orange hexagons. I stitched it on by hand and this was the only part of the instructions I didn’t follow. Binding scares me more than anything so I wanted to do it the way I knew and had done before.

It only took a couple of hours to complete the final stages and I love the finished doll quilt, it’s a great addition to my growing doll quilt collection. It measures 30x42cm so is the perfect size for one of my daughter’s doll beds.
