You can’t beat a gingerbread man, they’re great for re-telling the story of the gingerbread boy but make a great decoration too. There are lots of patterns out there . I love Wild Olive’s gingerbread man although I’ve often just drawn around a cookie cutter to make my felt gingerbread men and I like to embellish them with buttons and ric rac.

Felt is a great material to make gingerbread men. You can buy all sort of colour variations and felt is the perfect fabric for Christmas decorations. There are some fun variations of the gingerbread man, such as a half eaten gingerbread man. You can also make a whole gingerbread family. I love this sweet little gingerbread baby in his little gingerbread house. You can sew a gingerbread couple, in case your gingerbread man gets lonely, or take in one step further with this wonderful felt gingerbread King and his queen.

My children love the story of the gingerbread boy and this gingerbread finger puppet is a fun idea to help act out the story, as is making gingerbread men puppets from felting.

For a really modern decoration how about these felt gingerbread lollipop ornaments? If you don’t fancy sewing then I found a great technique from Lotta Kind who used white puffy paint to decorate her no-sew felt gingerbread ornaments.

You can use your gingerbread men to embellish wreaths such as the simple gingerbread men felt wreath or this Christmas yarn wreath. Gingerbread men also make for great decorations either in small embroidery frames or as part of a felt seasonal picture.

You can even bring them to the table with these amazing gingerbread napkin rings.

How cute! These are adorable and I love the idea of making them for the Christmas tree. I like to add a new ornament every year so maybe I should make one?

Wow! I love these. I made a Christmas Gingerbread Man banner last year which I loved. Those little men have so much personality – you’ve inspired me further on this theme!
