Ways to Autumn Clean your house

So we’ve all heard about the great Spring Clean but does your house need an Autumn Clean too? We had a lovely autumnal walk to the library and back today. The toddler is curious about the seasons so we try to collect as many little treasures on our walks as the size of his pockets allow. When we get home the treasures are pulled out of pockets to be examined and if possible ‘crafted with’.

As I sit and write this I can see a pile of leaves, nuts and shiny brown conkers on shelves and window sills. I’d like to tell you that they are there on display but no, it’s because my house is so cluttered! The summer went by in a real whirl and although the toddler has started nursery for a couple of hours each day, I admit to not finding any time to tidy and clean the house yet.

I’ve drawn up a little hit list, which is hopefully manageable over the next few weeks before our next visitors are due to stay.

  • declutter the lounge and dining room, there are no clear surfaces!
  • clean all the bits that don’t usually get a look in, the windows, the lampshades and light fittings
  • sort out the kitchen cupboards
  • tidy the children’s rooms and take unwanted toys and books, as well as clothes which are too small, to the charity shop
  • have our carpets and upholstery cleaned

Our house has many cream carpets which aren’t practical with two messy children. They’re staying for now but are in desperate need of a clean.

Is anyone else joining me on an Autumn Clean. If so, I would love to hear what is top of your ‘to-do’ list!
