Sticky fingers

I love using felt and I had an idea of creating a no-sew map of Greater London in felt. I was recently sent the two new Scotch Super Glue Precision Applicators from 3M and I thought this would be the perfect project to try them out.

I found a map of Greater London showing the 32 London boroughs plus the City of London and printed it out. I then cut out each borough individually to make a paper template, before cutting out each borough from felt sheets.

As you can see I ended up grouping some of the boroughs together as they were quite small and too fiddly to cut out.

When I had all my pieces ready to go I laid them out on a blank cotton teatowel and began glueing them in place. The glue was really easy to apply to the back of each piece of felt. The applicator means you can apply it exactly where you want it and you can also control exactly how much you use thanks to the clever droplet technology, which draws the liquid back in when you stop squeezing. Which means no more sticky fingers!

Scotch Super Glues come in a liquid and gel format and I tried both. Both were easy to use and can be applied to wood, metal, ceramic, leather, rubber, vinyl, some plastics, and more.

I really love my finished map, despite the gaps caused by my poor cutting out skills! I thinkĀ  I might hand sew around each borough to make it clear that there are lot of boroughs, and maybe display it within an embroidery hoop.
