My rainy day jar

It has been so cold the last few days. Luckily the toddler spends time playing outside whilst he’s at nursery which means I feel less guilty about not being outside for too long on the days he’s not there!

I have a mental list of stuff to do on really cold days which keep us indoors. I’ve seen a great idea for a rainy day jar on Pinterest which I’m going to make in the New Year. Basically you write a different activity on a lollipop stick or piece of paper and pick one every time you need a little suggestion.

We need this idea as we’ve already developed a bit of a routine. We go out in the morning and do jobs such as go to the Post Office or food shopping. In the afternoon we snuggle on the sofa and watch a film. Fortunately we seem to get sent plenty to review and we’ve all enjoyed a couple of quiet hours relaxing. However the toddler gets bored really easily so I’d love to come up with some ideas of things he likes to do.

He always ask to do more painting but I know there’s tons of activities to encourage his creativity. I’m going to make this in January as it’s always a quiet month when we don’t seem to have much spare cash. Let’s see if I can come up with 25 activities for a toddler by the end of the year.

As well as a child-friendly version of a rainy day jar I do have my own version! Not that I have any free time but if I did it would have the following:

a hot cup of tea

some time to sew

a trip to the V&A to see the latest exhibition

a trip to Oxford Street so I can browse the rails without two bored children

Perhaps I should make mine too. After all, I’m going to get some free time eventually, aren’t I?
