Myro, The Smallest Plane in the World

The toddler is very lucky for he was recently sent a lovely picture book and audiobook featuring Myro, the smallest plane in the world. Aimed at pre-schoolers, this is a series for children which follows the adventures of Myro as he settles into his new home in Australia.

Myro is created and published by Nick Rose, who bought a Microlight in 2004 and flew it around Australia. He then began developing the series when he realised there was a gap in the market for a quality series of children’s story books and iPad story Apps about aeroplanes that encourage children (particularly boys) to read at an early age.

The toddler adores Thomas and Friends and Bob the Builder so immediately took to Myro. We’ve been reading Myro Arrives in Australia and he’s enjoyed listening to the audio book as much as reading through the book together. I think it’s a great introduction to aircraft and I’m also relieved it’s not another train story as we all get quite enough of Thomas!

The first series of Myro books includes seven picture book which feature different adventures and characters such as the Tiger Moth, Railcar, Skydivers and Jet Fighters. Inside the back cover of the book is the Pilot’s Phonetic Alphabet, cutaway of a Microlight, map of Myro’s journey and fact file about different characters.

There’ s also an iPad story app – Myro and the Jet Fighter. There are three options (you can have the story read by Christopher Biggins, read by yourself or record yourself. The app is easy to use and we enjoyed looking at the Adventure map, learning more about a Jet Fighter as well as listening to Myro’s Song, Supersonic and Orchestral Theme Music.

The iPad/iPhone Story Apps are downloadable from the App Store, with the Audio Story Books and CDs available from Waterstones, Amazon and Independent Booksellers.

Sounds nice. I have one aircraft-lover in my family, so it would make a perfect gift for his kid. Bob the Builder! Oh he helped me a lot with having a little time for myself…
