We’ve lived in Wood Green in north London for the last 6 years but have only visited the handful of charity shops a couple of times. However, last week we popped into Oxfam and were rewarded with a haul! First up were two new-to-us Thomas the Tank Engine DVDs. There was no way the toddler could not have these so we snapped them up.
As I was paying I noticed a big bag of Brio by the counter. The toddler just loves his trains and already has a good Brio collection so we bought this too! You can never have enough train track and there was even an engine included in the bag. Oxfam is not cheap but nothing was overpriced either, unlike the upmarket charity shops in our neighbouring towns.
As we were out and about we thought we’d visit the other charity shops in Wood Green. If you start at the top of the High Road near Wood Green tube there is a delightfully cluttered North London Hospice Shop. It’s a bit hectic but full of bargains, best visited without a double buggy.
Back down the High Road towards Turnpike Lane tube station you will find a Traid, which is great for fabric, a very new Shelter and Cancer Research. The High Road is long so a visit to each charity shops takes about 30 minutes with a good browse in each shop.

Brio is an amazing find. We have a great charity shop near us, but all the local parents are on it! If you see something you have to buy it there and then or it’s gone.
I always seem to spot the trains in charity shops, must be because of the toddler!

My mum lives in Wood Green (I used to too) so I’ll take a look next time I’m there. I know she likes the Hospice shop and often finds bits for my kids there 🙂
