Planning a new home

Posted on June 15, 2012March 3, 2014 by jenny

I’m definitely more excited about planning how we’re going to decorate our new house than I am house hunting and actually moving. We’ve let house hunting slip recently although we’re planning on going this weekend, weather permitting.

We’re all getting fed up of constantly tripping over things, items falling out of overstuffed cupboards and just in general dread of the children needing anything bigger than a pack of nappies.

Decorating and buying furniture is exciting though and I’ve been spending hours looking at nursery furniture as Little Sis will finally get her own room. I’m trying to steer clear of pink as I can’t stand the traditional gender division. Instead I’m thinking of a Thomas theme for Big Brother (ok, I know he’s blue!) and something Orla Kiely-inspired for Little Sis.

moving house means buying furniture

This means we will also get our bedroom back for ourselves. I can foresee some new Pinterest boards being added for furniture, wall paper and paint inspiration, I already have boards for the children’s rooms. I’m wondering if the husband will let me go with a vintage vibe for the bedroom – a small amount of floral wall paper to go with my vintage Cath Kidston bedding, mis-matched bedside tables, a vintage dressing table where I can lock away my make-up from little hands and decent storage for my collection  of Orla Kiely bags.

I’m really hoping the dream will match the reality. It’s going to be a real wrench to leave London which is why it’s taking us so long to move. I just hope we find a lovely house for the family, with a garden big enough for a tree house for the toddler as well as a man shed for the husband. Me and Little Sis just want to not trip over a train set ever again!

Only the outskirts of London so I’ll still see you! Just need at least another bedroom and LOTS more storage cupboards!
