I know it’s the 4th already but I have to blog about the grown up advent calendar I made this year. I used a wooden MDF blank from Hobbycraft and decorated it exactly as I wanted, to make a wooden gingerbread house.
Equipment used to make a wooden gingerbread house:
Wooden Advent House
Brown acrylic paint
White acrylic paint
Advent number toppers
PVA glue
Pack of white buttons
How to make a wooden gingerbread house
The MDF wooden house has 25 small cabinets so you can fill them yourself. You can also decorate these blanks any way you like, with paint, glue, glitter or decoupage. I decided to make mine look like a gingerbread house, because quite frankly, you just can never have enough gingerbread houses around at Christmas! I raided my craft stash and found paint, buttons and Advent number toppers.
The first step was to paint house. I used brown and white acrylic paint and it only needed one coat of paint. I opened the doors slightly so I could paint around and inside each individual door.
When the paint was dry I added a white button trim around the rood edge.
I applied 24 festive number toppers to each door and a large cardboard star to the last door.
I love my gingerbread advent house and it has pride of place in the fireplace surrounded by my Advent candles. I placed some of my favourite chocolate coins behind each door but I’m hoping my husband might fill it with something a little more expensive next year!
