My toddler is quite a chatterbox. At one stage I wondered if he would ever talk, and of course, now he never stops. I’ve realised how I tune out to him (bad mummy). The other day we were in a shop and the sales person was talking away to me and I wasn’t listening. I apologised when I realised and knew it was because I have to tune out to my son, otherwise I would go mad. The toddler is 34 months and has a great vocabulary. He’s inquisitive and very chatty and I can understand what he’s trying to say 90% of the time.
Over the last week or two he’s started asking what things are or do. Now, I thought I didn’t need to worry about this until he started school. How wrong was I?! The other day he pointed to the smoke alarm and asked what it was. I managed to explain that one. But his questions are getting harder!
We found some track for his Thomas train set in a charity shop and when we were on our way home he went through the pieces asking what each bit did. Now, I’m a bit lost when it comes to train parts. My default answer is increasingly being “Wait until Daddy gets home”. The toddler doesn’t forget either; he will ask Daddy.
This is a brilliant phase he’s going through but it’s making me feel inadequate as a parent! Thank goodness for google.
Exhausted from talking all day long!

January 24, 2013 at 9:56 amI know how it feels, don’t worry, no parent can answer ALL their kids’ questions! 🙂 My little ones tend to ask “Why” all the time. You could not imagine how many times one can wonder “why”. I guess they gonna be philosophers when they are older!
