West London Racing Centre

West London Racing Centre {exploring the local area}

Posted on June 3, 2017August 23, 2020 by jenny

I’ve mentioned a few times that my husband and children have a collection of model cars they like to race (this is on top of the model cars and model planes!). When we moved to West London we began looking for somewhere to race the cars, other than the woods or local park. Someone recommended the West London Racing Centre.

West London Racing Centre

The West London Racing Centre is in the corner of Pole Hill Open Space, a park in the London Borough of Hillingdon. The WLRC is designed to provide an organised venue for racing 1:10th Scale Electric On-Road radio control model cars. They have a purpose made tarmac “Grand Prix” circuit track and the design can be varied by the use of temporary track markings. They have organised racing quite often so it’s best to check before you turn up – unlike us.

You can probably guess that the first few times we turned up a race was in progress. Fortunately the kids love walking round, watching the different teams working on their cars and watching the racing. The track is really well used in the summer months and a few times we have gone along to watch. I love that their HQ is  a shipping container, with stairs to the top so you can see whilst you race!

The kids love to go along to watch but kept asking when they could have a go. We’ve managed to take them a few times so they can drive their own model cars. My husband keeps mentioning how much he’d like to take part in the official races but he already has plenty of model planes and boats, I’m not sure I could take it if he had yet another hobby!

where to race model cars in london

This is a great place  to go if you’re looking for somewhere to race your model car in London. Pole Hill Open Space has a free car park and toilets, as well as a children’s playground, skatepark and small petting farm. It’s a great park if you’re in the area or looking for somewhere to race model cars.

    Such a good idea. We have some pretty awesome remote control cars, as my son is so in to cars and all things wheeled. Just never really have the chance to let them rip. Up and down the driveway gets a little tedious after some time. Looks like great fun, and a perfect location for all racing car (model) enthusiasts.

    That’s a fab idea. I’ve never seen a place like this that you can race remote control cars. Great fun for young and old alike
