I’ve mentioned before how fantastic the Isle of Wight is for charity shops. We’re fortunate we have family that live there so I have lots of opportunities to shop. Saturday was the Round the Island Yacht Race so we had an amazing view of the yachts heading round the Island.
Ventnor is a great place to spend a couple of hours. It’s full of quirky vintage and charity shops, as well as the beautiful Art Deco Winter Gardens which holds the occasional sale where we picked up this gorgeous vintage wooden chair a couple of years ago.
There’s also plenty for children with the sandy beach, amusements, The Cascade and novelty children’s paddling pool in the shape of the Island! I have very fond memories of Ventnor and I’m hoping my children will have their own happy memories too.
Whilst my children snoozed in the car my husband allowed me some time to shop. First up along the High Street was the cavernous RSPCA shop where I found a vintage tablecloth, a souvenir of Scotland which feels very Cath Kidston-esque. I’m thinking of cutting out the printed panels of tourist destinations as they would look great on a patchwork quilt.
A bit further down the road is Diabetes Research IW which is a bit like an alladin’s cave with the friendliest staff and lots of bargains. Round onto Pier Street is Suze’s Room which sells vintage clothes, furniture and toys. This is where we bought the toddler a lovely wooden truck a couple of years ago which we painted and filled with building blocks for his 1st birthday.
There’s also an Earl Mountbatten Hospice shop and Oh So Vintage which sells clothes, before reaching my favourite little haberdashery. Rainbows Haberdashery is a fantastic shop stuffed full of fabric, wool, sewing supplies and notions. I never come away without tons of fat quarters in beautiful colours.
