a month in the country
The Weekly Edit

The Weekly Edit {Week 6/2026}

Starting my week with the Weekly Edit is a ritual I’ve kept for years. It’s my favourite Monday morning anchor—a chance to slow down, celebrate the ‘small wins,’ and gather the smiles from the week behind us. Part reflection and part record-keeping, it’s my way of documenting our family’s adventures before the next chapter begins.

The Weekly Edit {Week 6/2026}

Last week I finished reading A Month in the Country by J. L. Carr. This was a short book but really beautifully written. It was about a man finding renewal and healing after returning from the First World War, whilst working to restore a hidden medieval wall painting.

Finished the Ever Upward Grow Your Own Way 1000 piece puzzle from Galison. This took a few days as it was so simple compared to our previous puzzle.

I’ve had an idea to stitch a mini doll quilt and finally started. I used to make lots of doll quilts so I’m not sure why I stopped. I picked up the red and white FQs fabric at the Knit and Stitch Show in October, so it felt good to use them. I’ve pieced the top so now need to hand quilt, which is my favourite part of the process.

Yesterday we walked the dog at Eastcote House Gardens and saw so many snowdrops, catkins and daffodils too. I love all these signs of Spring and can’t wait for warmer weather, and less rain.

I used the last of my gingerbread kits to make some gingerbread rocky road. Ikea gingerbread tastes really good so I used the gingerbread trees kit as the base for the rocky road. I just added butter, golden syrup and marshmallows to make a delicious after school treat.

Until next week—find the joy in the little things.
