Christmas Countdown panel

The Weekly Edit {Week 2/2026}

Starting the week by writing the Weekly Edit is something I’ve been doing for the last few years. It’s my chance to sit down and reflect on the little or big things that made me smile in the previous week, as well as to record some of our family adventures.

The Weekly Edit {Week 2/2026}

Last week we packed away the Christmas decorations. This is always bittersweet as I love having them around, but am also happy to have my house clean and tidy again. We had a real Christmas tree so I was happy I didn’t need to clean all the dropped needles every day.

I completed my Christmas Countdown panel! It was lovely having something so big to work on over the last few weeks. Once I had finished stitching each motif I hand quilted the whole panel, put the quilt layers together and bound it. I love the finished piece, and have put it away until next Christmas.

Despite the decorations coming down we were clearly not done with Christmas. I used my Sainsbury’s gingerbread dough to make some bow shaped gingerbread biscuits which were delicious. I couldn’t find any Ikea gingerbread dough which is my favourite, but this one was also good.

I also make large gingerbread trees from the Giant Gingerbread Man & Tree Biscuit kit by Asda I featured in my gingerbread gift guide. I enjoyed making something a little different and this dough was darker and tasted good.

Over the weekend we looked after our friends dog and two dogs are fun! We went on some long walks and my dog enjoyed the doggy company. I don’t think I would ever want two dogs though, as that’s two muddy dogs to clean!

Until next week—find the joy in the little things

  1. I really love the idea of stitching a countdown panel over the holidays. Two muddy dogs definitely sounds like a lot of extra cleaning work after those long walks.
