I don’t know about you but I love a new craft book for a bit of inspiration or to challenge me to try something new. The lovely people at Octopus Books recently got in touch, asking if I would like to see a copy of TATE: Project Print 30 projects to spark your creativity by Colette Whittington, the next wonderful addition to their list in collaboration with TATE.
TATE: Project Print (30 projects to spark your creativity)
With this book you can explore the versatile art form of printmaking and develop your skills with 30 eye-catching projects. Whether you are an experienced printmaker or discovering the medium for the first time, this book shows you the many different ways you can experiment with hand-printing techniques.
Focusing on three main areas – relief, screen and transfer – and featuring low-cost methods and easy-to-follow tutorials, the projects can be practised easily at home. From hand-block-printed stationery to a patterned scarf and tote bag, enjoy fresh ideas and fill your wardrobe and home with unique designs.
Projects include: patterned cards, bright wrapping paper, linocut art print, mini still life, screen-printed scarf, upcycled wall tiles, sun-printed journal and geometric lamp.
As we’re currently in lockdown here in the UK I knew whichever project we tried would need minimal equipment. Thankfully, most of the project use every day items, or items you can easily get hold of. We tried the rolling pin wrapping paper craft. We didn’t have a spare rolling pin so decorated a cardboard tube with foam stickers. My son was attempting a Star Wars themed and en had lots of fun with his designs.
He applied paint to the cardboard tube, then rolled it over paper to make his own wrapping paper. It was such a simple way to make personalised paper with endless possibilities.
There are so many fun projects in this book and we can’t wait to try more.
