Later this month we are driving through the UK, taking the Eurotunnel to France and then driving on through Belgium to the Netherlands. We are so excited about our week away and have been planning and packing for what feels like weeks. Our holiday involves a long car journey so we will be packing items to keep the kids occupied in the car. They are 6 and 8 and we’ve done quite a few long car journeys so I thought I would share my top tips for keeping kids occupied on car journeys. Read on for an i-SPY giveaway too.…

Happy Monday everyone. Hope you had a great weekend and are enjoying the school summer holidays. The weather has been a little too hot for us but that hasn’t stopped us from having fun during the second week of the holidays. Each week I start off by writing my Monday mindfulness – 5 happy things blog post. It’s a great chance to reflect on the things that made me happy in the previous week, as well as to record some of our family adventures – it’s a post I always enjoy writing. Monday mindfulness – Summer holidays (Week 2) We started off…

I have some exciting news to share. We’ve been busy planning an awesome Summer holidays – can you believe the school year is nearly over? This year has just flown by and we are all ready for a break from the school routine. And this year we are going abroad for a week to Duinrell! Looking forward to our first Eurocamp holiday As much as I love the 6 week holiday they do require a little planning. We are fortunate to be surrounded by Kids Clubs so my children will be spending some time at those. This year we’ve booked…

I think you can always tell when the Summer holiday has started because we’ve signed up for the Summer Reading Challenge at our local library! Have you heard of the Summer Reading Challenge? It’s the UK’s biggest reading promotion for children aged four to eleven and runs over the summer holidays. It’s completely free to sign up, although you will need to be a member of the library first (which is also free!). Free Summer activities with the kids – Summer Reading Challenge As a bit of a bookworm myself, both my children were signed up to the library within…

I’m really hoping that this Summer weather is here to stay. The children only have 2 weeks left at school until their 6 weeks off. The summer holidays always seem a little easier when the sun is shining. For the last few years we’ve kept a summer scrapbook, this is a great activity for us all to be involved with, it encourages the children to write and is a lovely memento of our family adventures. Why you should make a Summer scrapbook with your kids A few weeks ago I saw some colourful scrapbook kits in Flying Tiger so bought…

Any one starting to worry how to keep the kids busy over the Summer holidays? I have to admit that panic is starting to kick in. I’ve booked quite a few things but that doesn’t stop me trying to come up with ideas for some of the days we’ll be spending at home. I love to have different days out, other than the park or cinema. Living on the edge of London we’re really lucky to be within easy reach of farms and countryside. I thought I would post a round up of some of our favourite farms to visit…

Over the next few weeks I’m going to be sharing some low-cost ideas for keeping the kids busy over the Summer holidays. I’ve already written posts about painting and hiding painted rocks, and playing with bubbles. Today I wanted to share our love for i-SPY books! Do you remember them from when you were growing up? They are A6 pocket sized books, each one on a different subject. Pick a topic and I bet you will find a book for it. Then find the objects and tick them off as you go along. You score points for each spot and…

I love a sunny Bank Holiday weekend! I hope the sun is shining wherever you are. It’s time for my weekly Monday happy things post, today is {Week 152}. The start of the week was lovely and peaceful at home. We enjoyed being at home, the kids played with their toys whilst I caught up on washing and cleaning. The children have been taking part in the Summer Reading Challenge so we made sure we fitted in a trip to the library, I can’t believe our next visit will be our last. On Thursday we headed off to Bristol. We…

Our Summer holidays are whizzing by. I can’t believe we’ve had four weeks of adventures already. We were really lucky to go away for a few days and have a change of scene. It was lovely to do normal things, like watch films at home and take the kids to the park. We wanted to help my daughter ride her bike without her stabilisers but let’s just say, she was a little reluctant! Monday Happy Things {Week 151} Whist we were away we visited The Courts Garden, Holt and the Fairy and Dragon Grotto at Whitehall Garden Centre. We’d never…
