I was lucky enough to receive some new craft books for Christmas. Added to my extensive ‘craft’ shelf I now have a copy of Sew by Cath Kidston and Making Chidren’s Clothes by Emma Hardy. I also got a copy of the Sewing 2010 day to day calendar which will hopefully inspire me to use – and not just look at – my lovely sewing basket more often this year. However, only 10 weeks to go until my due date so I’d better make a start on the cot quilt soon!

I managed to make a couple of handmade gifts for Christmas presents this year. First of all I made this tree from some patchwork hexagons and framed it for my mum. It was completely inspired by this photo on flickr by the very talented Liesl. Then I attempted this doorstop from Clothkits which I picked up at the Knitting and Stitching show at Ally Pally last November. The fabric was slightly different from the instructions so it took me longer than it should have. Again, I made this for my mum although it was quite difficult to part with ๐

Ages ago I came across a cuteย tutorial to make these elf clogs and it has taken my years to actually make them. However this weekend we were off to visit an aunt and I always make her something for Christmas. Soย I thought it was time I tackled this little project. Then I was having so much fun I made a couple of them, stuffed them with chocolate and hand delivered them to my aunt. I hope she likes them ๐

I made these adorable reindeer from a kit bought from Sarah at Paper and String. There were so simple to make and will look great on the Christmas tree – as long as I can keep the kittens away from them!

Continuing the theme of Christmas then, as we’ve decided it’s not too early to mention it… I made a lovely ornament using this tutorial from the Orange Flower: Sketchbook blog. What do you think? I hope my swap partner likes it ๐

Yay, the first issue of Sew Hip! landed on the doormat today and it’s great. There are loads of patterns to choose from so hopefully there will be some sewing time over the weekend.

I’m making very slow progress with my Dear Baby Jane block. Tonight I completed C-3 Rayelle’s Fence which was fun. I used some Cath Kidston fabric, I get twitchy if I don’t use some occasionally!

I managed to complete another block tonight, it was quite straight forward and I finished it whilst watching America’s Next Top Model! We told some of our friends and work colleagues about our engagement today which was fun. Everyone was asking if we had set a date and decided on a venue but we haven’t had time to think that far yet. My mum sent some beautiful flowers to work which was lovely, but I had a struggle getting them home in one piece on the train and bus. I’m so glad I started driving lessons and have a little…

Happy St Patrick’s Day! A lovely straightforward block tonight, made with some fabrics from a recent swap.
